Tamaki Science Roadshow

Room 7 & Room 5 went to the Science Roadshow at Tamaki College. We were provided transport from our parents. My sister Rita came and she dropped off Albert, Patrick, and I to the Roadshow at Tamaki.

My favourite thing at the Roadshow was this Sugar Test. This was my favourite because it showed how many sugar is in sugared drinks. The drink I tested how much sugar was in, was a energy drink. I found out their was 29.3 teaspoons of sugar in a energy drink.

I think this was a really good trip to Tamaki College because we got go to a Science Roadshow for the 1st time.

Spark Headquarters

Spark Headquarters                              23/05/2016

Yesterday, Sunday 22 May, some of the Room 7 and Room 5 students went to the Spark Headquarters.  We went by bus.  It felt funny going on a school trip on a Sunday but was excited to go.  

We participated in different activities.  My favourite activity was 3D printer.

This was my favourite activity because we got to design what we wanted to create with the 3D printer. Sadly, my creations were not going to be printed because it will just take to long. I created a car using a program called Tinkcad.  I was very creative with my online construction.  I was disappointed that I did not have the opportunity to print, however, I now know how to access this program.  I realised how some toys are made, like the little toys at McDonald.  I might look for job like that in the future.

Fr Francis Vernon Douglas

Fr Douglas was born on 22nd May 1910 in Wellington. He attended all his school sports, the sports he played were rugby, cricket, handball, and boxing. After he finished school he worked at a post office, he worked there for a while and then he felt the need to become a priest. In 1938 he sailed to the Philippines and arrived in his new parish of Pililla in July. He preached good news about God in the Philippines.

In 1941 the Japanese invaded the Philippines, Fr Douglas he could’ve ran away, but he stayed with his people knowing what was going to come. The Japanese integrated him because they thought if he was a priest he would be a spy. They thought he knew where the Philippine Guerillas where, Fr Douglas did know but he didn’t tell them.

He was water tortured and had a big piece of wood on his stomach and the soldiers would jump up and down on his stomach. Fr Douglas was last seen being dragged out a church and into a military truck. They believed he died because when the truck came back his body wasn’t in it. It is believed he was put to death in 10 July 1943.

In the holidays me and my family went to Kohimarama beach so we could swim.

It was a hot day, we had nothing to do, my dad asked me and my family if we wanted to go beach, we said yes. So we packed our bags and went to the beach. When we got to the beach it was packed.

We found a spot where we could put down our things, after when we got changed into our swimming togs, me and my nephew had race into the water. When we got to the water we saw our family already in their, the water was very cold, we struggled to get in the water, but we finally got in there.

While we were playing in the water my brother came in and he started putting our heads under the water, it was very fun because we had a competition to see who can put most of the heads under what, my big brother won because he would always put 2 heads down all the time.

Overall I thought that was a fantastic day, and I hope we do something like that again.
